Yom Yerushalayim: what it is

On the 28th of Iyar 5727 (June 7, 1967) Israeli forces reached the Old City of Jerusalem and the Western Wall. The Chief Rabbinate set the day as a holiday, with Hallel in many communities.

In Jerusalem a flag march crosses the Old City, and ceremonies gather veterans of the war.

What people do

  • Saying Hallel, according to the community’s custom.
  • Going up to the Western Wall.
  • Taking part in ceremonies and the flag march.

Also written: Yom Yerushalayim, Jerusalem Day, Yom Yerouchalayim.
